Four OEST employees participated in the longest distance
running relay race in the United States in September. The Reach the Beach
Relay consists of teams (with up to 12 team members) that rotate through
36 transition areas as they cover the approximate 200 mile distance of
the race. The race starts in Franconia, NH and ends in Hampton Beach,
NH.
Bruce Goodwin, Electrical Engineer; Dave Libby, Structural
Engineer; Christa Miller Shelley, Structural Intern; and Calen Colby,
Structural Engineer, participated with 7 other runners from Bath Iron
Works to form a team called “Running Aground”. The team had
two support vans to carry runners and supplies and the runners averaged
approximately 17 miles over the continuous two-day race.
